Stop Motion, Go

This assignment was Stop-Motion. No story was required. The only requirement was we transformed one object into another. Minimum 20 seconds(ish) and 15 frames per second (fps) or better.

I feel this project was successful even though the first sequence is less than 15 fps, the second half is 24 fps. I also wasn't aware it needed to go along with my audio mash-up, so I adapted music as it went along in editing.

I have a green-screen colored fabric and I had not used it before so I added that element into the filming. I followed Oliver Stones creative lead in trying to use a more psychological background on two of the backgrounds, one for story telling element, and one background was to sell the location.

I had also never done any mic recording, so I tried that too for this project. I had actually made a full character-based sound track, 7 characters, and decided it wasn't doing the story any favors. So that is when I matched it to a single track that I squished to fit the story in a rhythmic story-telling fashion. I left in only sound effects and left in 2 voice tracks.

Enjoy!

Assignment AVT 280: Audio Mash-up

My first thought was to mash something you might not expect together. Initially Mos Def and Metallica came to mind but I was having issues getting rid of sound that wasn't Mos Def's Voice. I don't know enough about it to knock it out easily. I fell back to two tracks I had that were instrumental and acapella.

That is the first track, Eminem's vocals from "Without Me" and the music from Xzibit's "X". It was working but was still messy. Em's singing style is really slick and his songs are often complex (Thanks Dre). Xzibit's track in comparison was easier to work with for what I knew at the time.

The second track grew from my desire to do something with more meaning. If I was going to spending time on it, why not make it something interesting to me. I was having a hard time cutting Martin Luther King Jr's speech. I got the speech from 17 minutes edited down to 4 minutes, including taking out his normal speaking cadence to truncate length. and seem more like a rap song.

Assignment AVT 280: Kushlov Effect

This is the Kushelov effect in action. It is not as good as it could be because the face is excited about exciting things (too obvious) and there wasn't as much varied backgrounds as possible. I learned that people can and will fill in the gaps with their mind based solely on what they see and its own context. This can be a powerful tool to create story and convey emotion.

This video is about the continued war in Iraq. The loses, confusion, and cost have been greater than we would have imagined. May our brothers and sisters come home safely.
