Assignment AVT 280: Prinicples of New Media

Principles of New Media:

Numerical Representation
{(3, 5), (0, -4), (2, -3)} (Vector Triangle)

Modularity
I am leading the creation of an artwork that was designed to be modular. This was a critical element for what it would have to go through. I knew, while designing it, it would have to be build, taken apart, rebuilt, and then moved again. There are only main 4 building-pieces in the work, repeated.

It comes apart into 30 pieces or, with less work, 9 pieces for movement. Give its size of 15 feet (4.8m) tall, 22 feet (6.7m), and 30 feet (9.1m) deep. There is also a wall around the piece, made up of the same 3 pieces, repeated. The wall is 128 feet (39m) long and 10 feet tall (3m).

Automation
Luckily the computer does all sorts of otherwise hard things in a matter of seconds. Like in Photoshop! Yay Photoshop.

Variability
Customizable from data sources, creating multiple UI from the same data, scalability.

Assignment AVT 280: Digital Montage

I created two as I was playing with different ideas and images.

"Manifest Destiny D'uex"

Israel has occupied Palestinian lands since 1967 and, while at the time they kept the lands as a buffer to violence, they began building houses for Israel's citizens on this occupied territory. Under the United Nations policies, these settlements considered illegal. The Israeli government calls these locations a "Natural Expansions;" however, the Palestinians feel differently and the continuation of this practice cause tension that break down peace talks between the neighbors.Undeterred by protests by Palestinians and some Israelis, Israel keeps building new settlements which causes more fighting, more blood shed, and destroys the stability of these societies. A fools bargain.

"Peace Is Necessary"

This was created as a graphic message using a particularly graphic image around the circle. Peace is not only needed and favorable, but it is necessary. There has been enough death and instability in the region for this hundred and the next hundred years. War is is unsustainable and a non-peaceful solution will become increasingly complicated as other countries and the United Nations are forced to get involved.

Hello, World. This is your Captain speaking. We'll be arriving at 36,000 feet eventually, but it there is a lot of crap out there and the ride isn't always going to be smooth. Keep your chin up and move forward.
